This time of year, many of us start to think about getting our home ready for family and friends who will be coming to visit for the fall and winter holidays. I always like to make the space feel fresh and revitalized for the new season of entertaining! Here are a few ideas to consider as you think about freshening up your own space!

TURN A WALL INTO A GALLERY

If you’ve got a big empty wall space in the living room, turn it into a gallery of your memories. Blowup your favorite photos and pair them alongside paper trinkets like concert tickets, city maps or train stubs. Choose differently sized frames of the same color and material for each of your items and place them on the wall. The best part about this project is that you can switch out the paper souvenirs after every new trip and lead into effortless conversation starters for guests!

ADD MIRRORS TO SMALL SPACES

An easy trick to making small rooms and kitchens look bigger is to add mirrors. Place a large mirror on a wall opposite a window. It will reflect natural light coming in from the window and give the illusion of wider space.

COVER A PIECE OF WOODEN FURNITURE WITH FRESH PAINT

Whether it’s a stool, bench, kitchen chair or a desk, a fresh coat of paint does wonders for an old piece of furniture. Choose a color that matches your accent pillows and throws. Don’t be afraid to go for non-earthy/non-traditional tones, like sea foam green or navy blue.

GET RID OF BULKY FURNITURE

Sometimes the best way to add style and taste to your home is to remove something. Take a look at your bulky furniture pieces and ask yourself, “Do I need this? Do we use this? Would I be ok with parting with this?” If the answer is yes to any of these questions, consider taking it to a thrift store and donating it. Removal of bigger furniture items opens up spaces for a cleaner, more airy room.

SPLASH THE WALLS WITH FUN WALLPAPER

Removable wallpaper is the savvy decorator’s best friend. It’s relatively inexpensive, reusable and can be smoothed on a wall in a snap. Get a fun geometric pattern or a bright bold color and place it in the bathroom or bedroom for a quick and easy update.

UPDATE THE HANDLES

Examine the bathroom and kitchen cabinets and see if the handles could use an update! Choose from stainless, brushed nickel or even bronze. Shiny new knobs and handle pulls will instantly modernize these functional areas of your home.

BRING IN PLANTS

I always love having fresh plants inside – whether its succulents or a potted orchid, vegetation makes the indoors feel so much more lively. Choose plants that don’t need a ton of water to survive. Succulents are perfect. Or better yet, air plants! These rootless plants can survive with a few daily mists of water and look great hanging from the ceiling in geometric glass holders.

Whether it’s painting an old stool from your childhood or putting your trip to Europe on display, try these ideas to start fresh in your favorite spaces!

Love,
Sasha
